The title is a combination of xeno- meaning alien and -cide referring to the act of killing together meaning the act of killing populations of aliens.

There is a Prologue in which Lilas 40 year old son contacts Leni to tell her that his mother had disappeared. Leni feels distant from them all from the entire society in which she has grown up.
Nowhere in the book is there any link to this Prologue.
